First off, you can watch a podcast that shows you an instrument.

1. You might already have an instrument in your family that nobody is playing. Check with your aunts, uncles and cousins. Even your grandparents might have a treasure up in the attic.
2. The school has a few junky old instruments available for kids who really can't get their own.
3. You can rent an instrument from a local music store. Some of the rental plans allow you to apply the money you spend on rent toward the purchase price should you decide to buy the instrument at a later date. (See list below)
4. You can buy an instrument outright from a reputable establishment.

It is not a good idea to obtain an instrument from the Internet on Ebay for example, unless you are a professional and you know what to look for. It is difficult to determine the quality and condition of a musical instrument without holding it in your hands and examining it up close.
